The Royal Apothecary Society Conference

Friday - May the 26th, Stormwind's City Hall at the Dwarven District, 23:00.

Whilst on my way to the first Royal Apothecary Society lectures, I wondered what would be in store. Would I be surrounded by elderly dwarves in tweed jackets? Spectacled spinsters with nothing else to do on a Friday night in the city? Quite possibly, but this is one reporter prepared to make sacrifices if she needs to. Upon arriving, I was surprised to find quite a young crowd and an enthusiastic group of speakers, and my fears were immediately thrown out of the window.

The host for the evening was Lady Lashela Greystroke Alania, Mistress of the RAS, and the meeting quickly moved on to the first lecture of the evening, which was the Lady hostess herself with an investigation into 'Addiction on the Arcane'. A lecture which I myself was quite interested in, as it involved information on 'Blood elves', a topic that has always fascinated me, and I am currently researching. Her conclusion, in her own words: "the use of the Arcane is completely safe".

Following on from this, Scholar Caiwen Lothrain gave a rather thought provoking speech entitled 'Philosophy of the Void', in which he discussed the all important question 'Why are we here?'. A question which many have asked and few can answer. His contact with the wild men in the desert of Tanaris and their philosophy was the trigger that made him write this essay, he confesses.

Professor Berdrin Stormspanner followed with his study on 'Lepergnomia Gravitatis' (or the leper gnome sickness, to us non scientists). A fantastic look at some experiments on Troggs to find a cure with his Stormspanner Recombobulator 7000, and some, frankly, stomach churning slides to accompany it. Unfortunately, the results hadn't led him to the definite cure yet. The Professor brought with him some of his latest engineering inventions, such as a mechanical Yeti, which he proudly called 'Bob', and of course, the most amazing device of the night, a machine that allowed him to show images of his experiments.

In the second of the evening's Arcane speeches, Scholar Richeron Withamhall spoke to us about 'Arcane Pollution'. He revealed a worrying information: his research, with the help of his colleague Prof. Stormspanner, has led him to believe that our beloved city and its population are endangered by the chaotic arcane energy accumulated, and throws a suggestion to the authorities: to contact the mages in the Tower of Azora and ask them for a special device to cleanse Stormwind of this energies. By this point of the evening I am spellbound by all the subject matter from all the speakers and highly recommend an RAS meeting to anyone.

The final lecturer of the night is the only non RAS member to speak at the lectures. But that made no difference, as Deileris Hillford presented his speech on 'Nether influence in biological processes'. A wonderful close to the evening and a wonderful time had by all.

Unfortunately, Chemist Liluria Tollingbell Coldwist wasn't feeling well and had to leave before her speech about her findings on The Plague. Hopefully, we will be able to listen to her in the next RAS Conference.

It's clearly shown that the RAS have a very important scientific role in, not only Stormwind, but in the whole of Azeroth and I for one feel honoured and privileged to be sharing in their knowledge.

Any information needed on the RAS can be found on the RAS bulletin board.
